After an intensive and highly productive year of development in 2025, we are proud to announce the official release of WoundSim 2026, the latest version of our platform dedicated to the design, simulation, and manufacturing of composite pressure vessels (COPVs).
This new version represents a major leap forward, introducing a fully integrated design-to-manufacturing environment, enhanced simulation capabilities, and a completely redesigned user experience.
🖥️ A New Comprehensive and User-Friendly GUI
WoundSim 2026 introduces a completely redesigned interface, structured into dedicated modules for improved usability and workflow clarity:
Layout ModuleCompute composite thickness buildup, fiber orientations, and layer overlaps with high precision.
Pre-Design ModulePerform rapid initial assessments of the COPV cylindrical region under specified pressure and temperature conditions.
FEA ModuleGenerate and compute detailed finite element models, including static and dynamic load cases, as well as advanced failure criteria.
Manufacturing Module (New)A fully new module designed to help engineers assess the manufacturability of each composite layer.
🔧 New Abaqus Translator
The WoundSim 2026 Abaqus translator has been significantly upgraded and is now fully compatible with Abaqus 2025 and Abaqus 2026.
New features include:
Output requests on user-defined Abaqus steps
COPV cylindrical element remeshing
Liner cylindrical element remeshing
3D mandrel creation
2D liner generation from 3D parts
3D liner creation from sketches
Overall meshing improvements
👉 These enhancements streamline simulation workflows and accelerate design validation.
🧠 A Unified Design-to-Manufacturing Platform
With this release, our vision is clear: to establish WoundSim as a fully integrated platform covering the entire lifecycle of composite pressure vessels — from initial concept and pre-design to detailed simulation and manufacturing.
WoundSim 2026 provides an integrated workflow covering:
Advanced mechanical simulation of composite structures
Filament winding trajectory generation
Pattern development
👉 Bridging the gap between design and manufacturing for faster industrial deployment.
🏭 Path Computation
Circuit trajectory generation for helical, hoop, and connector layers
Exact trajectory computation for non-geodesic helical layers using numerical integration
Friction potential evaluation to assess layer and connector feasibility
🧩 Patterns Computation
Identification of all feasible winding patterns for each layer
Computation of coverage, deviation, number of circuits, and path lengths
Evaluation of layer feasibility and optimization of final winding angles
🔗 Design–Manufacturing Interoperability
WoundSim 2026 ensures seamless data flow between design and manufacturing:
Direct transfer of layout module outputs (laminate tables and results) to the manufacturing module
Improved consistency and traceability across the full workflow
